HOW ARTERIES BECOME BLOCKED
Arteriosclerosis refers to a condition where a buildup of calcium and cholesterol form calcified arterial plaques that cause a thickening, hardening, blocking, and loss of elasticity of the walls of the arteries. Calcium, which has many positive vital functions in the body is directly involved in the he dangerous development of arteriosclerosis. BYPASS SURGERY
Many people with heart disease undergo coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), a procedure in which blocked portions of major coronary arteries are bypassed with grafts taken from the veins of the patients leg. CHELATION DEVELOPED BY NOBEL LAUREATE
The chelation process originated in 1893 with Alfred Werner, a French-Swiss chemist who received the Nobel Prize in 1913 for developing the theories that later became the foundation of modern chelation chemistry. Werner’s theories of how metals bind to organic molecules resulted in the the new field of chelation chemistry. Modern chelation therapy has been around since WWII when Werner’s theories were used by our government to develop antidotes for contaminants from poison gas warfare. At the end of the war, many doctors started using chelation therapy for other, non-war related medical disorders. By the mid ‘50’s, chelation therapy was the preferred treatment for lead poisoning in the US. It still is. It has been safely used on over 500,000 patients. Over 1,000 doctors offer chelation therapy in the US.
Dr. Norman Clarke, M. D., director of research at Providence Hospital in Detroit, was one of the first doctors to apply chelation therapy to the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. In 1956 he found that EDTA was effective in dissolving arterial calcium deposits, which is an effective way to treat arteriosclerosis (Clarke 1956). In a second study the same year, he found chelation effective in relieving the pain of angina pectoris (Clarke 1956). Because of his pioneering work, Dr. Clarke is now considered the father of chelation therapy for cardiovascular disease. Unfortunately, Dr. Clark’s research did not become very widely known, and in fact has been the victim of carefully waged and highly damaging attacks from nearly all components of the medical industrial complex. Why all the unfounded negative publicity? One possibility is that it is in the best financial interest of the medical community to put chelation therapy out of business so that costly medications, bypass surgery, angioplasty, and the products of biotechnology can be marketed. It is interesting to note that the patent on EDTA ran out in 1948, making it very inexpensive because it can be produced by any company. No matter how effective a drug is, when the patent expires you probably will not hear much more about it. Drug companies have no fortune to make and thus no motivation to advertise EDTA to doctors. Through this advertising, doctors receive the bulk of their continuing education.
