Vitamin Research Products -- Oral ChelatoRx

Source

This formula is worthy of consideration.  The primary ingredient is EDTA.

The suggested daily dosage is 10 capsules, meaning that the cost is $3.46 per day for the listed 1,000 mg of EDTA.  It is offered at the discounted price of $34.60 for a bottle of 240 capsules, take 10 per day.

Click to read about Dr. DeanThe top nutritional advisor for VRP is Dr. Ward Dean.  He has a spotted history of useful information on chelation.  Click Here for just one of the pages I have about him on this web site.  He has endorsed very questionable oral chelation formulas in the past.  The one he is now promoting, for VRP is better.  He is one of those who never gets too far out in front of others -- for his desire to be politically correct.

Years ago I, Karl Loren, was doing business with VRP and gave them thousands of pages of my research results on oral chelation.  They have extensive files of research data, but are not known for any of their own original break-through concepts in health.  It is NOT wrong to have the purpose of making money, but it should not be the ONLY purpose.

Oral-ChelatoRx As a quick comparison,  the Vibrant Life formula closest to this one in formula is "Life Glow Basic" where 1,000 mg of chelating substance (EDTA plus N Acetyl Cysteine) would be $0.67 per day.  This formula costs 500% more than the Vibrant Life Life Glow Basic.

This formula does have other ingredients.

One of them is worthless -- this is Gugulipid which is included for the purposes of lowering cholesterol.  I have easily established that high cholesterol is NOT a risk factor for heart disease. That full report is HERE.  It pains me to see an otherwise reputable company, Vitamin Research Products, cave in to the politically correct false data that high cholesterol is dangerous.  They cave in, but then tell you that they have a "better way" to lower your cholesterol.  Click HERE for data about Guygulipid.

In other words, Lipitor is, indeed, a terrible drug to take -- it is the top selling drug in America, and is used to lower cholesterol. This is a worthless claim, as I've reported. So, when someone comes along and accepts the false claim that high cholesterol is dangerous, but that THEY have a non-drug approach to solving high cholesterol, it would seem that they are trying to help people.

Ultimately anyone who repeats the false data is helping spread that false data.  So, Vitamin Research Products either knows the truth, and prefers the go the coward's way and repeat the falsehood, and then claim that the herb will do the job is, in my book, part of the enemy, not your friends.

So, Gugulipid may not be harmful to include in this formula, and it may or may not lower cholesterol (oatmeal will lower cholesterol and niacin will lower cholesterol -- these are cheaper and work OK -- but it is absolutely worthless to spend any energy or though on "lowering cholesterol."

In addition to spreading the false data about cholesterol, Vitamin Research Products promotes the diet that causes heart disease and bows down to other politically correct false data which the cardiologists claim to be true.  Click Here for more of that.

Next, this product includes malic acid.  This is a valuable ingredient to include. This formula provides a large dosage -- at 1,250 mg per day.  Vibrant Life oral chelation formulas also include Malic Acid. The primary page (of several) about Malic Acid on the Vibrant Life pages is HERE.

Malic Acid is primarily known as a chelator of aluminum, and typically must be accompanied by Magnesium.  The large amount of Malic Acid in this formula make it a useful formula for removing aluminum.  This metal is identified as a possible source of various serious diseases, but not of heart disease.  So for someone who wants to remove aluminum from the body this formula would be helpful, but it could also be separated from the EDTA since ONLY the EDTA in this formula is useful in reducing blockage in the arteries.

For heart disease my Life Glow Basic, at only one fifth the cost of this formula is a better buy.  Also, my other two formulas (Life Glow Plus, and Super Life Glow) are far superior to this VRP formula since this one does not include the fifty various other ingredients that I think are necessary for complete heart health.

The use of Malic Acid to remove aluminum from the body is describe on this Vibrant Life page.

Another ingredient in this formula is Bromelain which is certainly OK.  This formula includes 375 mg per day of this digestive enzyme.  My formulas have 50 mg of a more expensive form of enzyme.  In any event, this ingredient has nothing to do with heart disease.

This formula also has Chlorella and Garlic Extract. There is nothing wrong with these ingredients.  I have garlic, but never saw any need to include Chlorella.

In summary, this is basically a straight EDTA Oral Chelation product which would be about as effective as my Life Glow Basic, but at five times the cost of my formula.

In addition, however, this formula would be useful in removing aluminum from the body -- although that could certainly be done by getting the Malic Acid as a separate product from any health food store.

Vitamin Research Products is a huge company.  It does not produce fraudulent products, but its enormous size, and its need to sell at very large margins so that it can sell through so many hundreds of wholesalers, and thousands of retailers, these facts ensure that their products are very high priced and not ever promoted with the most leading-edge information.

They cannot afford to be very far out into the field of alternative health.

In short, this product is not worthless, and it is genuine -- it is just priced at five times more than my similar product -- Life Glow Basic.

These products are being offered as dietary supplements only and not as a substitute for medical care.

The health expert for this web site recommends against the low carbohydrate diet.  i strongly disagree with him.

I have researched and written about diet very extensively, and my conclusions are HERE.

Here is what he says:

I receive many questions and comments from people concerning the popular low-carbohydrate diets, particularly the Atkins Diet. Recently, there have been positive reports about this diet in the media, and even some prestigious medical organizations, while not embracing his program in full, have moved in the low-carb direction in their dietary recommendations. I think it is fine to limit carbohydrates if you do it by cutting out refined carbs. By all means, get rid of the refined sugar, the white flour, the "high fructose corn syrup" they pour into Coca Cola, and other such things. And, if one were to limit carbohydrates by reducing total calories, that would be fine with me too. But, to lower carbohydrates by shifting one's calorie consumption more towards proteins and fats, that I do not recommend.  (source)

Many years ago I, Karl Loren, went to Vitamin Research Products to have a formula made for me.  I found them to be reputable to deal with, however, ultimately I found their prices much higher than other places where I could get my formulas made for me, and I went elsewhere.  I have no bad feelings about them.

Here is information about the company.

Why VRP?

The Revolution began quietly . . .

Twenty years ago, the first shots were fired in the war against aging. Almost overnight, Americans began to use terms like anti-aging and life extension. For the growing number of life extension enthusiasts worldwide, there was no single source for high potency, pharmaceutical-grade nutritional supplements. So in 1979, a small group of dedicated scientists and research chemists decided to create their own company to develop their own special formulas. Vitamin Research Products was born.

VRP's foundation is laid upon solid, scientific scrutiny. Talented research teams first spend countless hours, pouring through hundreds of journals and research abstracts to identify nutrients vital for optimal health. This is followed by the meticulous selection and careful teaming of the highest quality herbal extracts and pharmaceutical-grade nutrient powders, the same superior grade used today in cutting-edge biomedical research. This commitment to making the world's finest nutritional formulas is further underscored by the choice to provide most formulas in capsules, not tablets - a move that guarantees maximum nutrient content, absorption and potency.

Vitamin Research publishes an industry-leading newsletter covering the latest studies in nutritional science. VRP also maintains the internet's largest health and nutrition archive.

In the nutritional supplement industry, VRP enjoys a reputation for quality. Manufacturing USP-grade, high quality supplements starts with a commitment that every VRP staff member shares. But producing the world's finest nutritional formulas requires more than just a pledge. It calls for ongoing, daily responsibility. And it's in VRP's Central Laboratory & Quality Control Department that this obligation ultimately comes to rest.

The acquisition of state-of-the-art, high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) equipment, in conjunction with a unique, landmark alliance with the Biochemistry Department, University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) has allowed Vitamin Research Products to further its industry-leading commitment to excellence and unsurpassed quality control.

"VRP has bolstered its reputation as an industry leader in quality control with the purchase of this HPLC," says Yu Shao, Ph.D., Director of VRP's Central Laboratory & Quality Control Department. "Our alliance with the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Nevada, Reno, gives us a fantastic resource that is of great value to our customers."

"Chromatography, one of the most useful methods of assuring quality, is used to separate active ingredients from impurities, and to quantify active ingredients present in the formula", says Dr. Shao. "VRP's HPLC is a highly sophisticated piece of equipment that adds a whole new dimension to QC", explains Shao. "It is far more accurate than other forms of chromatography and it is much faster, too."

"VRP customers will certainly benefit from this array of QC-monitoring equipment. We can subject every formula and every raw ingredient to the scrutiny of gas chromatography, thin layer chromatography, liquid chromatography, of course, and a wide variety of ultraviolet and visible spectrometer assays."

"The alliance with UNR is a mutually beneficial one for both companies", says VRP president, Robert Watson. "To be chosen by the University of Nevada to share in the resources of their biochemistry department is a wonderful honor," says Watson. "Our acquisition of this high pressure liquid chromatography system will help VRP in our pursuit of quality and excellence, and assure our customers that they are purchasing the purest and highest quality supplements, as well as provide great assistance to the university in their training of future scientists."

"Our Quality Assurance Team is constantly engaged in guaranteeing adherence to our rigorous manufacturing standards based on Good Manufacturing Practices," continues Watson. "The quality assurance check points are built into the entire process, including issuance of raw materials, blending and mixing for uniform dispersion, encapsulation for accurate fill weight, and ensuring the proper capsule count in each bottle. All these check points guarantee that what's indicated on the label, matches the content of the bottle."

Beyond Statin Drugs with Gugulipid

If statin drugs are causing side effects in persons who need to lower their cholesterol, gugulipid may be an appropriate alternative. In addition, this traditionally used herbal healer from the Ayurvedic tradition may also be important for diabetes control and weight loss.

The power of nature should never be underestimated. Take the country's current war against cholesterol. We may have a new weapon-thanks to the hidden powers of nature.

In early May, we received a report from Science Express, the electronic version of the journal Science, that a tree resin long used in India (for over 2,000 years) as a folk remedy for a variety of ailments has been found by modern researchers to be effective in controlling high cholesterol.

The real news here is that nature has devised an ingenious way by which the resin works, thus giving us another weapon against cholesterol-a potentially very important weapon.

"The sap from a tree known in India as guggul contains a compound that blocks the action of a cell receptor, called FXR, that helps regulate the level of cholesterol in the body," says study co-author David D. Moore, a molecular biologist at the Baylor School of Medicine in Houston.

Perhaps of most note, "This mechanism is completely different from the action of statin drugs," he says.

This is important. "We need to have multiple ways to lower lipids (cholesterol)," adds Dr. Mitchell A. Lazar, an endocrinologist at the University of Pennsylvania.

The FXR receptor regulates a number of genes and we are not sure which are the primary targets for cholesterol control. But the key here is that we now have a new mechanism to reduce cholesterol, which could be very important for patients who cannot tolerate the side effects some people experience with statin drugs.

Guggul Background

Also known as Commiphora mukul, gugulipid is harvested from the mukul tree. The extract of the oleoresin (gum guggul) contains many active components, including guggulsterones, which have been shown in several experimental and clinical studies to have the ability to lower both cholesterol and triglyceride levels by increasing the liver's metabolism of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, thus limiting its accumulation in the blood stream.

In a recent clinical study, effects of the administration of gugulipid (a source of gugglesterones) or placebo capsules taken twice daily for 24 weeks were compared as adjuncts to a fruit- and vegetable-enriched prudent diet in the management of 61 patients with hypercholesterolemia (31 in the gugulipid group and 30 in the placebo group).

Gugulipid decreased the total cholesterol level by 11.7 percent, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol by 12.5 percent, triglycerides by 12.0 percent, and the total cholesterol/high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol ratio by 11.1 percent, whereas the levels were unchanged in the placebo group. Lipid peroxides, indicating oxidative stress, declined 33.3 percent in the gugulipid group without any decrease in the placebo group.

"The combined effect of diet and gugulipid at 36 weeks was as great as the reported lipid-lowering effect of modern drugs," noted the researchers.

Multiple Benefits

Besides its cholesterol-lowering benefits, gugulipid also has mild thyroid stimulating properties and has been shown to be useful in preventing or reversing atherosclerosis and impaired circulation, reducing inflammation, and for obesity and psoriasis. Its cholesterol- and triglyceride-lowering properties make it ideal to include in herbal formulas for diabetics.

The Doctors' Prescription:

Dosage

The usual dosage is 25 milligrams of guggulsterone three times per day. Side effects are generally transient and include, most notably, some cases of nausea.

In addition to promoting the false information about cholesterol, VRP also repeats other false data about heart disease, HERE:

Cardiovascular Products

Heart disease is still the number one cause of death in the United States. It is estimated that if heart disease could be eradicated, 13 years would be added to the average life expectancy. That is much longer than would be added from eradicating cancer. The pathogenesis of heart disease is known to involve many factors, including cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar, chronic infection, chronic inflammation, homocysteine, and iron. There also can be a strong genetic component. Prevention of heart disease starts with diet (high fruit and vegetable consumption, avoidance of saturated animal fats and cholesterol as in fatty meats and cheeses, avoidance of refined carbohydrates, inclusion of omega 3 fatty acids (such as fish, flax, walnuts) and consuming high fiber foods like beans and oatmeal, aerobic exercise, maintaining normal blood pressure, maintaining normal weight, and abstinence from bad habits like smoking. The following supplements, all from Vitamin Research Products, have both preventative and therapeutic value against heart disease.
